What is the OCPS Parent Academy?

The OCPS Parent Academy is committed to making a sustainable impact on:

  • student success,
  • parenting, advocacy and
  • personal growth/wellness.

Since 2013, we have helped prepare over 65,000 parent with the knowledge and tools they need to empower their family and inspire their child’s success!

This year, in support of the OCPS 2030 Strategic Plan, OCPS Parent Academy sessions will be focused on:

  • college and career readiness,
  • resiliency, 
  • early literacy,
  • support of families who have a student(s) with disabilities and, 
  • support of families who have a student who is an English langauge learner

The OCPS Parent Academy offers a variety of options to meet the needs of all families:

OCPS Parent Academy Formats

To learn about each OCPS Parent Academy formats, please click below. 

  • Conference style events where parents can:

    • select concurrent breakout sessions on a variety of topics oragnzied around a specific theme,
    • visit the exhibit hall featuring community vendors to gather resources on the same topic, and youth academy organized around a specific theme,
    • take-home resources to extend learning at home.
    • enjoy a stress-free day of learning while their child(ren) ages 3-grade participate in our Youth Academy featuring a free book fair, arts and crafts, cooking classes, yoga, storytelling, physical education lesson taught by certified teachers. 

    Light snacks and beverages provided. 

  • A two-part series offered in the Fall and Spring which is designed to support families who have recently arrived in the United States—specifically those who have been enrolled in school for less than one year. This series introduces participants to the U.S. education system and helps them become active partners in their child’s academic journey.

    Each session is held virtually, Parents can choose to attend either morning and evening sessions which are offered simultaneously in Spanish, Portuguese, Haitian Creole, and English with closed captioning available in over 150 langauges.

    Take-home resources are provided to families. ​​​​​​

  • Engaging, 30-minute live-streamed conversations hosted on the OCPS Facebook page at 12:00 PM on select Wednesdays each month.

    These sessions feature a dialogue between the Family and Community Engagement department and another key district resource on a topic of high interest to the community.

    Parents and community members are encouraged to participate by submitting questions in the comments section. OCPS staff will respond to questions in real time , fostering open communication and community connection.

  • Informative 60-90 minute webinar style presentations that are designed to help parents learn more about specific skill or topic in a traditional classroom style format. Parents participate in discussion using the chat and polls.

    Advance registration is required for community attendance.

  • Parent workshops on specific topics such as assessment, resiliency, and literacy presented at your school using turnkey workshop kits developed by district departments, including including presentation, facilitator notes and other interactive activities.

  • PK-2 bilingual read-alouds that occur at 6 P.M. on select nights and are steamed live on the OCPS Facebook page . Families are taught vocabulary and engaged in comprehension activities.


  •  Unique one hour virtual sessions for families of English Language Learners that will occur on Webex Webinars on select Wednesdays on topic unique to newcomer families.

  • On-demand videos for families which provide brief training or information on high-demand topics. Videos are curated into playlists by gradeband and topic.
