OCPS provides a device for every Orange County Public Schools student. However, the district acknowledges that some families may want their students to use a non-district device, and as a result, allows for the Bring Your Own Device option.
-
The BYOD program allows students to use a non-district device, such as a tablet or laptop that meets district specifications, for learning purposes at school and at home. The BYOD option is available to all students at every OCPS school.
-
Review the BYOD Buying Guide below to ensure the device you are considering meets district specifications.
Once you have purchased the device, log in to the Chrome browser and Google Drive with the student’s OCPS credential before bringing it on campus. The OCPS student username is studentid@students.ocps.net. Student passwords can be reset by contacting the school.
On the first day of being on campus, connect to the OCPS wireless network. Students may not use a personal hotspot while on campus -
Personal devices connect to the OCPS wireless network. Because a personal device is not a district device, internet access is filtered at the highest available level to help keep students safe online. Students may not use a personal hotspot on campus, so all internet access at school goes through the OCPS network.
-
Students who bring their own device follow the same technology expectations as students using a district device. Each school year, every student must read and sign the Student Technology Acceptable Use Agreement. We encourage families to read the agreement together so your student understands how to use technology and the district network responsibly. For more information, see the OCPS Family Technology Handbook.
-
School staff can provide basic help connecting your student’s device to the wireless network and can share links to official OCPS setup guides. If your student has trouble signing in to their OCPS account or needs a password reset, the school can help with that too.
-
Support for personal devices is limited. School staff cannot repair personal devices, fix problems with the operating system, remove viruses or malware, move personal files, install personal apps or software, change device settings, or install special drivers. Repairs, personal software, personal data, and care of the device remain the family’s responsibility.
