A Funny Thing Happened
Siri, Call my Mom!

As the Media Specialist at Engelwood Elementary, Catie Lane interacts with students from all grade levels and overhears her fair share of student interactions. But after a day of testing, one kindergarten student gave her an unexpected laugh.

iPads are used at some schools so kindergarten students can complete assessments without one-to-one support from a staff member. During school-wide testing in September a group of kindergartners were in the Media Center completing STAR testing.

After finishing their math testing for the day one student decided he had done enough and wanted to go home. He turned to his trusted friend Siri and said, “Siri, call my mom. Tell her to come pick me up. I’m a little bit tired.”

Thankfully, Siri is deactivated on OCPS iPads. Still, the student seemed a bit disappointed when Siri didn’t respond.
