April 2 – Board approval

Effective date – Upon Board approval

Members of the school board received a detailed presentation from the Division of Learning to share how books are selected, acquired and weeded in media centers and reviewed for approval in classroom libraries.

Additionally, various departments presented changes to three board policies:

IJOA – School Trips and Excursions

•  Step 1 - 1st Revision (now): Initial proposed revisions to remove the prohibition of field trips for the last two weeks of school and update the terminology.

•  Step 2 - 2nd Revision (later this summer): More comprehensive proposed revisions to include evaluations of Policies EEAF Special Use of Buses, JJ Extracurricular Activities, JJB Social Events for Students, and JJI Interscholastic Athletics.

IA – Student Progression Plan

•  Step 1 - 1st Revision (now): Proposed revisions to remove the crosswalks of End of Course exam grade percentages for Algebra I and Geometry.

•  Step 2 - 2nd Revision (later this summer): Proposed revisions to the policy language and to include the incorporation of a Student Progression Plan Handbook, a searchable guide that contains links and all expectations and requirements for students to progress. This Student Progression Handbook will be more user-friendly for parents/legal guardians/staff than the current version of Policy IA.

JIC – Code of Student ConductCode of Student Conduct

•  Policy JIC (now): It is not anticipated that there will be any substantial revisions to the policy language itself, but the purpose of today’s work session is to provide an overview and timeline of the process.

•  2024-2025 Code of Student Conduct (later this summer): Proposed revisions will be presented after the community meetings, survey, input from the administrators/union, and new legislation.
