Teacher Starts School Year with Colorful Carpet in Classroom

The excitement of a new school year means new students, new adventures, and for one lucky OCPS teacher, a classroom carpet makeover.

This year, Washington Shores Elementary third-grade teacher Jill Robbins’ classroom went from drab to fab with Milliken Topaz carpet when she welcomed her students on the first day of school. Spectra Contract Flooring provided and installed the carpet at the beginning of August.

During Teacher Appreciation Month in May, Robbins was notified that her classroom had been selected to receive the makeover. The carpet may look familiar to many OCPS staffers – the blue, green, yellow and brown design has become the district standard and has been installed in new schools and renovation projects districtwide in recent years. Made of carpet squares, the flooring will also be easy to replace in case of accidents.

Robbins feels blessed to have been selected as the carpet-makeover recipient.

“I’m so in love with my new carpet because it brightens up my classroom and adds to my sunflower theme,” she said.

“The carpet installers were professional and fast throughout the entire process.”

Sunflowers resemble the sun and exude vibrant energy, and along with the new fabric flooring, it will be a win-win for Robbins and her students.

Besides the carpet, there are other changes in store for Robbins during the 2022-23 school year. She is transitioning from second to third grade, and she is looking forward to possibly having some of her former students in her class.
