School Board meeting highlights (Aug. 9, 2022)

The School Board of Orange County held its regularly-scheduled board meeting at 4:45 p.m. at the Ronald Blocker Educational Leadership Center. These are the highlights of the meeting:
School Board approved seven policy revisions for the 2022-23 school year
The purpose of these revisions is to assure compliance with all applicable federal and state laws, Florida State Board of Education Rules, Board Policies, administrative rules, procedures and guidelines.
Policy BA – School District Operational Goals
- this policy is to clarify school improvement and education accountability.
Policy BDD – Board Superintendent Relations
- this policy is to update the expectations of relationship between the Board and Superintendent.
Policy BDF – Unitary Status Advisory and Oversight Committee
- this policy is to include updated expectations for the USAOC.
Policy BDG – School Attorney / Legal Services
- this policy is to address litigation processes.
Policy BG – School Board Policies and Policy Process
- this policy is to clarify the policy approval process.
Policy BGC – Review of Policies
- incorporated into policy BG and policy BGC has been repealed.
Policy EBBA – Disease Prevention; Face Coverings
- this policy has been repealed.
Changes regarding administrative personnel
Superintendent Designate Maria Vazquez introduced the following new administrators:
Michael Armbruster, deputy superintendent, Division of Teaching and Learning
Patricia Gurin Lapace, area superintendent, East Learning Community
Angie Delia Algarin, assistant principal, Avalon Middle
Tokyo Campbell, assistant principal, Carver Middle
Elvon Nelson, assistant principal, Lockhart Elementary
Erin Jones Willis, principal, Lawton Chiles Elementary
