Fire Prevention Week Oct. 6 - 12

Orange County Public School is committed to ensuring the safety and security of students and staff.

October 6 – 12 is National Fire Prevention Week. It is a good time for everyone to review safety procedures in the event of a fire, if you haven’t already for this school year.

At any time this month in a district-owned facility you may be part of a fire drill. This is to ensure that all occupants of a building know how to safely exit their workplace in the event of a fire emergency.

According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), a fire evacuation escape plan provides the skill set and know-how to quickly and safely escape a fire situation.

A fire escape plan includes:

  • two exits from every room in a building;
  • a path to the outside from each exit;
  • smoke alarms in all required locations;
  • a meeting place outside where everyone in the building will meet upon exiting.

The 2019 Fire Prevention Week theme, “Not Every Hero Wears a Cape. Plan and Practice Your Escape!” effectively serves to educate the public about the vital importance of developing a fire escape plan with all employees and students of Orange County Public Schools.
